In this week\u2019s blog post, we share examples of seriously impressive experiential food activations. Let\u2019s dig in!<\/p>\n<h3>Land O&#8217;Lakes\u2019 Copernicus Project Merges Food and Technology <\/h3>\n<p>At SXSW, Land O\u2019Lakes launches one of the event\u2019s most immersive and interactive experiential food activations, titled \u201cThe Copernicus Project,\u201d whose goal is to challenge long-standing beliefs about humans being at the center of today\u2019s modern food system while also exploring what its future could look like.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing inspiration from the famed astronomer and mathematician, Nicolaus Copernicus, the activation includes exhibits that invite attendees to actively explore our food system, utilizing multi-sensory tactics that make for a truly unique experience, including a huge avocado ball pit \u2014 yes, an avocado!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArtistic, innovative exhibits put visitors at the center of modern agriculture \u2014 from sculptures illustrating the interconnectedness of our food to a giant avocado ball pit showcasing the power of nanotechnology,\u201d notes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/twincities\/news\/2019\/03\/15\/whats-land-olakes-doing-at-sxsw-talking-about-the.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Minneapolis\/St. Paul Business Journal.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more, attendees are invited to participate in interactive surveys \u2014 designed to resemble a sort of food web \u2014, \u201canswering questions about food through colored strings,\u201d notes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizbash.com\/local-venues-destinations\/texas-austin-dallas-fort-worth-houston\/media-gallery\/21061349\/brand-activations-at-sxsw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BizBash.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the activation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.landolakesinc.com\/Press\/News\/SXSW-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Land O\u2019Lakes itself says <\/a>its goals are to address \u201cissues our food system faces, challenge people to re-evaluate priorities and inspire us all to take action to protect our food. This conversation must explore the intersections between health, technology and food security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Experiential food activations that welcome engagement, are multi-sensory, educational, AND lets you jump into a giant avocado-themed ball pit? Always a yes!<\/p>\n<h3>Sonic\u2019s Perfectly Instagrammable Square Shake<\/h3>\n<p>At Coachella, popular fast-food chain Sonic takes the phrase \u201cDoin it for the \u2018Gram\u2019\u201d to a whole new level, introducing milkshakes perfectly sized for Instagram \u2014 literally. In the world of experiential food activations, this is one too yummy to ignore. The delicious shakes (coming in super-artisanal flavors like oak-barrel aged bourbon and lavender), aka <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AgKfH-G-q6E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#SquareShakes,<\/a> are served in square glasses making them optimal for social sharing and a pretty edition to your IG feed.<\/p>\n<p>In today\u2019s world of food photography, this activation, dreamed up by chef Christine Flynn, 100% appeals to the foodies attending Coachella in every way. With every aspect of the shakes being square \u2014 right down to the ingredients \u2014 everything about them screams Instagram, including how to get your hands on one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoachella attendees are basically going to be able to order their own #SquareShakes using a \u201cShop Now\u201d button that will appear with ads for the shake on Instagram,\u201d notes Delish. \u201cSonic will then deliver the shakes directly to festival goers using a geo-fence. The best part (yes, it gets even better) is that customers can pay for their shakes directly on Instagram, too \u2014 in the form of a tagged photo of their milkshake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, a milkshake that\u2019s not only yummy, but beautiful and IG ready? Plus a brand that shows it\u2019s tuned in to how people are shopping these days and which social channels they\u2019re using? A delicious part of the world of experiential food activations indeed!<\/p>\n<h3>Oreos and 3D Printing Come Together<\/h3>\n<p>How would you like your next Oreo to be served straight out of a 3D printer? Well, at SXSW, that\u2019s exactly what you\u2019ll get! The beloved cookie brand\u2019s parent company, Mondelez International teams up with Twitter to give anyone attending the festival an exclusive 3D printed sweet treat in it\u2019s \u201cTrending Vending Lounge.\u201d How does it work? People can simply stroll up to one of two vending machines and order their custom Oreo \u2014 the machine prints the cream filling \u2014 we are all for experiential food activations that do that!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAttendees can choose from a dozen flavors based on what\u2019s trending on Twitter under the hashtag #eatthetweet,\u201d notes <a href=\"https:\/\/firstwefeast.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">First We Feast<\/a>. \u201cOptions include banana, mint, birthday cake, and lime, and they can be paired with either a chocolate or vanilla base for the cookie. The chosen flavor is printed onto the cookie base within two minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At an event where technology and innovation are front and center, this type of activation is perfectly in sync.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re connecting trending moments to the cookie itself,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodbeast.com\/news\/oreo-3-d-printing-machine-prints-trending-flavors-on-twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">says<\/a> Bonin Bough, VP of global media at Mondelez.<\/p>\n<p>And how sweet these types of experiential food activations are!<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3>Cheetos Goes Flamin\u2019 Haute Couture<\/h3>\n<p>Who would ever guess that Cheeto\u2019s would have one of the buzziest experiential food activations at New York City Fashion Week? The cheesy snack is a favorite for many, especially the Flamin\u2019 Hot flavor and for their exclusive set-up, they play on that in a completely clever way, transitioning to Flamin\u2019 Haute \u2014 okay, we\u2019re sold already.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the kickoff weekend of New York Fashion Week, Cheetos held an adjacent event, the \u201cHouse of Flamin\u2019 Haute,\u201d inviting media, influencers, and fans of the brand to get makeovers and witness a fashion show themed around the crunchy orange snack,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizbash.com\/production-strategy\/experiential-activations-sponsorships\/media-gallery\/21087020\/cheetos-fashion-week-event-in-new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BizBash.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>How amazing does that sound?
